University Colleges Leuven-Limburg (UCLL) in Heverlee, Belgium
As the sole second-year BME partner, UCLL brings together all participants in one vibrant student community on its campus Proximus near the historic Belgian city of Leuven, home to the largest and oldest university of the Low Countries. UCLL not only offers courses by knowledgeable and experienced lecturers, but also a student atmosphere that fosters learning as well as fun.
At UCLL, BME's second-year participants study near the heart of Europe, with fast and easy access to Belgium's surrounding countries. The attraction of the thriving student city of Leuven is that despite its relatively small size and the safe, green surroundings, it features an overwhelming offer of student events, festivals, performances, cultural centre activities and museum exhibitions around the year.
At UCLL, second-year BME students follow the programme "Bachelor Business Management - Marketing" consisting of the following courses*:
- Strategic Marketing
- Sustainability and Business
- Market Research
- Graphic Design
- Consumer Behaviour
- Sales Management
- Business Practice
- Management Report
- Academic Writing
- Electives: a foreign language (French, German, Spanish)
* Please note specific course offerings are subject to change.
Apart from the variable transportation costs students incur when travelling to and from their home country, the following 2 cost estimates need to be considered for participating in BME's second year:
- the cost of living near UCLL's campus Proximus
- the yearly BME tuition fee at UCLL
Estimates of the cost of living near Leuven vary with the specific student's lifestyle, but a typical figure is between € 600 an € 650 per month.
UCLL's yearly BME tuition fee is € 922,30 for academic year 2018-2019. In specific circumstances a lower tuition fee may be possible. Students will be informed automatically if this applies to them during registration. To enquire beforehand, contact the Social Services at Van Dale College (KU Leuven).
For the second BME year also, the quality of the student accommodation significantly contributes to a participant's overall experience. Therefore again carefully research housing options before committing to a selection and always visit the accommodation before sending a first deposit or signing the contract. Specifically for exploring accommodation possibilities near UCLL's campus Proximus:
- see excellent pointers on UCLL's "Housing in Leuven" webpage
- search the web and browse the many relevant Facebook groups for student housing listings - look for groups that are advertising student 'kots' or individual studios
Applying to UCLL for the second year is a smooth process, as the students have already supplied most of the required information during the pre-enrolment at the start of their first BME year, as detailed on the Join Us page. Towards the end of their first year, applicants receive the instructions needed to enrol at UCLL for their second year.
For non-EEA students: we offer the opportunity of a blocked account. This way the visa application can be processed faster by the Belgian embasies in a non-EEA country. Students are asked to deposit 8.900 euro on a UCLL account. This covers the tuition fee, start-up fee (including Kotnet, bus pass, …). Next, UCLL issues a Letter of Financial Guarantee which students submit with their visa application, along with the Letter of Admission from UCLL. From September through next September, students receive a monthly instalment of 642 euro to cover day-to-day expenses. The remaining balance will be reimbursed at the end of the year.
